The first phase of the INTRIDE project aimed at making our business and academic environment assessing which competences and skills are the most relevant for future designers. The validation was achieved through a two activities process: a questionnaire and a virtual workshop.

SURVEY (June 2020)

For the questionnaire, in which participated 20 Spanish companies from the fields of habitat products design and manufacturing, the results have been compiled in a national report, which is available for consultation and download on the project website (www.intride.eu).

WORKSHOP (July 2020)

The Spanish National Workshop on the Study “Soft, Digital & Green critical competencies that a designer should have to deploy innovation in SMEs manufacturing habitat products”, took place on July 2nd, 2020.

This online meeting, organized by CENFIM, Elisava and Leitat, has involved participants of the following sectors: SMEs, Academia (Danae Esparza, Josep Puig, Rafael Pozo and Ricard Ferrer) and Alumni (Pablo Figuera, Jordi Muñoz, Berta Julià). In order to design the academic programe of the new master’s degree, it is necessary to carry out a research phase in which to foresight what the academic, professional and business needs are.

Thus, this group has been brought in to define which are the priorities for each actor involved and to validate the competences that have come out of the survey in a more transversal vision.

Having a recorded online workshop format certainly presented an added challenge, particularly when trying to devise the inner-working dynamics and logistics of it. It also introduced a learning curve, concerning both the potential participants and the organizers, when it came to interacting in such virtual environments in both an engaging and effective way.

Almost all participating of the three cluster profiles verbally showed an appreciation for the opportunity to involve themselves in the dynamic and familiarize themselves with these new tools, while also displaying an interest in further sessions after giving a generally positive feedback.

During the workshop, the participants interacted through a digital platform to choose not only which digital, design, green and soft skills should apply for this new master’s degree, but also their evaluation and hierarchization, identifying relevant resources. To conclude, this session showed the interest to stay connected with not only a national network of actors but also a European forum for transversal dialogue on the sector’s needs, trends, developments, and continuous evolution.
